About Us - St. John Lutheran Church

Who we are

St. John Lutheran Church is located in Rochester, Indiana, USA. Rochester is a small town in north-central Indiana between South Bend and Indianapolis on Highway 31 (some 45 minutes south of South Bend). St. John is located at the southwest corner of 4th & Jefferson Streets.

St. John has around 400 baptized members. Our average Sunday attendance is right at 100 members.

We're a Lutheran Church. As such

  • We believe that “...God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him” (John 3:16-17 NIV).

  • We believe that people are saved by grace through faith and not by what we do:

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:8-10).

  • We believe that we're called to be reconciled with God and with one another:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:17-21)
